This seven-session printmaking course explores both relief-based and intaglio printmaking techniques, beginning with monotype printing before progressing into drypoint etching. As the course develops, you’ll learn how these two processes can be combined to create more layered, experimental and varied prints.
You’ll begin by applying ink directly to perspex sheets and printing them using our Albion press, before learning how to create drypoint plates and print them on our new Gunning etching press. Later sessions will give you the opportunity to combine these approaches and experiment with different ways of building an image. The course is open to all ability levels, from complete beginners to experienced printmakers. All basic materials, equipment and facilities are included, with additional perspex, papers and specialist materials available to purchase.
You will learn:
The fundamentals of linocut, monotype and collagraph printmaking.
How to experiment with a variety of printing materials and surfaces.
Techniques for developing your own printmaking ideas from initial tests to finished prints.
How to print confidently using our Victorian Albion Press and our Gunning Etching Press.
All basic materials, equipment and facilities are provided. We'll have a wide range of papers and materials available for experimentation, with additional specialist papers and supplies available to purchase if you wish. Please bring your own lunch and wear clothes you don't mind getting inky. Tea and coffee are provided throughout the day, and Cherry Farm Café is next door for lunch or refreshments.
