In this 3-hour session, we’ll explore the work of artists using lino cut printmaking to inspire the prints you’ll create yourself. You’ll learn how to carve lino safely, apply ink correctly and print using our Victorian Albion Press.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners, and all basic materials will be provided. We’ll be working at a small scale for this one-off session, but if you’d like to develop larger or more detailed prints, you may wish to attend additional workshops to continue your project.

Monotype is a unique printmaking process that creates expressive, one-of-a-kind prints. Using ink or paint on smooth surfaces such as glass, metal or acrylic, we’ll transfer images onto paper using our Victorian Albion Press.
This process is painterly, experimental and perfect for anyone interested in looser or more expressive image-making. During the session, we’ll look at examples from artists working in monotype, explore found imagery and objects for inspiration and experiment with different ways of creating marks and textures.
No experience is needed, and all basic materials will be provided. If you’d like a deeper introduction to monotype, feel free to sign up for multiple sessions to explore additional techniques.

Collagraph is a wonderfully tactile and experimental form of relief printmaking. In this process, textured materials and found objects are attached to a rigid surface to create a raised printing plate, which is then inked and printed using our Victorian Albion Press.
During the session, we’ll look at inspiring examples of collagraph prints, experiment with textures and materials and learn how to ink, prepare paper and print your own work.
No experience is needed, and all basic materials will be provided. If you’d like to explore more advanced collagraph techniques, you’re welcome to attend multiple sessions.

In this 3-hour session, we’ll jump straight into the mesmerising process of Western paper marbling. Using a carrageenan solution, we’ll float inks across the surface and transfer our designs onto prepared paper to create colourful, one-of-a-kind patterns.
Paper marbling is both magical and messy, so please wear clothes you don’t mind getting splashed with. We’ll be working at a small scale during the session, but if you’d like to work more ambitiously, feel free to sign up for additional workshops and let us know in advance.
No experience is needed, and all basic materials will be provided. Your marbled papers can also be used in one of our bookbinding workshops.

In these two 3-hour workshops, you’ll learn the foundations of hard-back bookbinding and create your own durable sketchbook to take home. Alongside practical demonstrations, we’ll share examples of artists and radical collectives who have used bookbinding as a tool for storytelling, archiving and sharing knowledge.
We’ll also introduce other bookbinding techniques that could be explored in future workshops.
No experience is needed, and all basic materials will be provided. Additional materials, including hand-marbled papers made by Samsam, will also be available if you’d like to personalise your book. You may also wish to join one of our paper marbling workshops and use your own marbled papers for your sketchbook.
Please note, you will need to attend both evening sessions to complete your hard-back book.

Among the trees or beside the sea, this workshop invites you to step out of the studio and into the landscape for a relaxed outdoor drawing session. Together we’ll explore the environment through sketching, collecting, observing and experimenting with natural materials.
This is a social and supportive workshop designed for all experience levels. Feel free to bring your dinner, favourite materials or anything you’d like to work with; we’ll also provide paper and a range of drawing materials.
No experience is needed, and we’ll have plenty of ideas and guidance to help you along the way.

Techniques for developing a relaxed outdoor sketching practice

During the golden hours of the evening, we’ll step out of the studio together to explore the surrounding landscape through drawing. Along the way, we’ll experiment with a range of materials and approaches to capture the objects, colours and atmosphere we encounter.
This is a relaxed and social workshop, perfect for anyone wanting to slow down, draw outdoors and spend time making alongside others. Feel free to bring your dinner and any materials you’d especially like to use; we’ll also provide paper and a selection of materials.
No experience is needed, and we’ll be there with plenty of guidance, prompts and drawing tricks to support you throughout.

Approaches to observational and landscape drawing outdoors
Techniques for capturing light, atmosphere and movement
Ways to draw more freely and confidently in a relaxed setting

Portrait drawing can feel intimidating at first, but this session is designed to make the process approachable, relaxed and enjoyable. Together we’ll explore practical techniques to help you observe facial features, proportions and expression with more confidence.
We’ll share examples from artists we love for inspiration and guide you through a range of drawing exercises throughout the session.
No previous experience is needed, and all essential materials will be provided. If you have favourite drawing materials of your own, you’re very welcome to bring them along.

Techniques for observing proportion and facial structure
Ways to loosen up and approach portrait drawing with confidence
How artists use line, tone and mark-making in portraiture

Sometimes the hardest part of drawing is simply making the time for it. This 3-hour session offers space to slow down, observe carefully and develop your confidence through a series of still life drawing exercises.
We’ll explore different approaches to observational drawing, helping you loosen up, experiment with materials and strengthen your drawing practice over the course of the session.
All materials and equipment will be provided, and no previous experience is needed. If you have favourite drawing tools or materials of your own, you’re welcome to bring them along.
